Scout insurance and siblings

With the end of the school year fast approaching and it’s time to start thinking about new scouts and more outings. Some of those outings could be family camps or service projects with family members in attendance.

Scout units should keep in mind that only those registered are covered by the BSA insurance policy.

The role of the Scout leader is to provide a safe, quality program for the Scouts. Any siblings in attendance are the responsiblity of the parent that must also attend with them.

At no time should Scouts of any age be left responsible for siblings.

It’s not a bad idea to consistently remind families of this when letting them know of upcoming events.

The Guide to Safe Scouting lists the adult/scout ratio for activities. The parent/sibling ratio is left to the Scout units discretion.
