North Coast Veterans’ Stand Down: September 7th-8th, 2012
Since its inception in 2006, the NCVSD has provided veterans and their families access to community services which include legal services, medical and mental health screening and counseling, eye examinations and eye glasses, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags, employment and vocational rehabilitation assistance, VA and Social Security benefit claims counseling, housing and housing referrals as available, transportation to and from the event, and spiritual and social outreach. It is believed that they serve 500 to 600 veterans each year!!
They are asking for about forty Scouts to help with various tasks around the event. This included doormen, gear sorting, escorting vets around the event.
All Scout units are encouraged to arrive Friday night and campout at Rilea. Large military tents are provided for the youth to sleep in (adults should plan to bring their own shelter). Food is provided for Friday night and Saturday morning.
