Meriting with the Experts: World Forestry Center

The history of our region clearly shows that we are blessed with our forests. Our forests provide needed resources that help us economically through well-paying jobs and by providing raw materials for sustainable products. We are in a partnership with trees and by providing a healthy environment for the future, we can ensure a healthy economy and protect our forests. But, just like our youth, our forests are a resource that we must nurture to preserve for future generations. Join us as we learn more about these rich resources.

Please join us at the World Forestry Center on Saturday, October 27, 2012, as we seek to discover our world’s natural beauty through forests and trees. Boys will learn about forest management, reforestation, tree biology, the roles of water and wildlife in the forest, clear-cutting, tree and forest life cycles, and green building.

From 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m., instructors will lead boys to complete all of the requirements for the Forestry Merit Badge. At noon we will break for lunch. Lunch from area vendors will be available on-site; those who wish, are welcome to bring their own. From 1:00p.m. and to 4:00p.m. instructors will lead Scouts in completing all of the requirements for the Pulp and Paper Merit Badge. Sign up for one badge, or sign up for both!

Boys can register for both sessions or only for one session. Boys coming to the first session will need to plan to arrive at 8:00am for registration. Boys attending only the second session will need to arrive at 12:00pm for registration. The cost per session is $15.00. Registration is at www.cpcbsa.org/register

Scouts should not expect to come back with a completed blue card. They will have a good head start on this merit badge and should plan to connect with a local merit badge counselor for completion and a signature.
