Third Annual Dutch Oven Cookoff at Ft. Clatsop District Picnic

It’s that time of year again…come out and enjoy the fun at the Ft. Clatsop District Picnic…and check out the Dutch Oven Cookoff. Check out the rules at the end of this post and load up your Dutch Oven and favorite dessert supplies.

There will be games, fun and food. The District will provide hamburgers and hot dogs with the fixins as well as water. Bring your own favorite potluck side dish.

As in years past, there will be NO SWIMMING allowed at this event. There is also a $5 fee to park at Cullaby Lake.

We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Entrants supply your own Dutch Ovens and Utensils

  1. Entrants supply all charcoal and starting materials.
  2. Everything must be prepared on site.
  3. Entrants must be able describe their creation as to how made and with what to the judges.
  4. Entrants can start bringing in their equipment and set up at 5:30 pm.  
  5. Preparation and starting of charcoals can begin no sooner than 6:00 pm
  6. Judging at 7:00 pm. All cooking ends and your plated dessert brought to the judging table.
  7. There will be 2 divisions.  Adult Scouters and Scouts
  8. This is a solo event, no teams or helpers.
  9. Judges will be judging on:
    1. Originality
    2. Taste
    3. Appearance
    4. There will be a points deducted for Cobblers and Dump Cakes in the Adult Division.
    5. Head Judge’s decision will be final.
  10. All cooking must be done in a Dutch Oven on site.  No more than 2 Dutch Ovens maybe used.
  11. Side items such as butters, sauces, jams should not be presented to the judges.
  12. Good fire safety practices must be maintained.
  13. Safe food handling practices must be maintained.

Bike Trip America to Depart Oregon for New York this Week

Bike Trip America is a Charity Cross Country Bicycle Trip brought to you by the Scouts of Crew #255, Astoria OR. Chartered by the American Legion.

In a post from Bike Trip America’s facebook page….”Officially, we will be leaving exactly June 18th, 2015 at 10 AM from the Peter Iredale entrance to the beach. Public is welcome to join us for the ride from there to Astoria (11 miles) or just send us off. A little before 12 PM we will arrive at the American Legion in Astoria where there will be a barbecue lunch at 12 PM. Only about 40 burgers are available up for grabs, but if you show up you will likely be able to get one. By 1 PM we plan to be on the road again exiting Astoria from highway 30 to stay at a Legion post in Clatskanie which will be hosting us for our first night on the road. It will be a rather hilly first day, but the mileage shouldn’t be too tough.”

Scout nights at the Moda Center

The Portland Trail Blazers are excited to once again team up with the local Cub/Boy Scouts to offer three great nights of high-flying basketball action as well as special experiences for all Scouts, families and friends.

January 10th vs Orlando Magic @ 7:00PM – The first 100 participants to purchase tickets to this game are invited to play on the Blazers court before the game from 1:30-2:30pm, doors open at 1pm. The first troop to buy 40+ tickets will also get to high-5 the Trail Blazers as they enter the court after halftime.

February 27th vs Oklahoma City Thunder @ 7:30PM – All Scouts, families and friends are invited to stay after the game to shoot a free throw on the Blazers court and watch a movie on the big screen! The first troop to buy 40+ tickets will also get to participate in that night’s Anthem Buddies (limited to 12 participants).

March 28th vs Denver Nuggets @ 7:00PM – The first 200 participants to purchase tickets to this game are invited to “Training Camp” at the Moda Center from 1:30-3:30pm. There will be 4 challenging fast-paced stations throughout the arena to complete!

2017 National Jamboree: Live Scouting’s Adventure

At the second jamboree to be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, you’ll be able to explore the mystery, adventure, and beauty of a West Virginia summer. And the adventure of Scouting.

You’ll join more than 30,000 Scouts from all over the country, as they enjoy 10,600 acres of wild, wonderful West Virginia at the Summit and find out first hand just what it’s like to Live Scouting’s Adventure.

That’s it! That’s the theme for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree: Live Scouting’s Adventure. In Scouting, as in life, adventure takes on many meanings: high adventure, learning, camaraderie, and simply being part of something bigger.

The 2017 jamboree theme encompasses all of these aspects, and participants will quite literally experience every element of adventure in what will be a mega-event of any Scout’s lifetime.

The Cascade Pacific Council will be sending hundreds of Scouts to the Jamboree during the summer of 2017 and we need the best of the best to apply for leadership positions to lead our Scouts. The CPC 2017 National Jamboree Leader application is available online now! Visitwww.cpcjamboree.org today.

Mud Mayhem Returns to Scouters Mountain September 12, 2015

Mud Mayhem is returning to Scouters Mountain in 2015!! If you’ve never participated in Mud Mayhem (formerly Mud Cubs) you are missing out.

The event is no longer just for Cub Scouts…older Scouts can have just as much fun. And parents and leaders even have a blast!!

The event will be September 12th. Cost will be $10 if pre-registered and $20 at the door. Watch for registration to open at http://www.cpcbsa.org/register

Do You Drink Enough Water?

How much water do you drink. Did you know most people don’t drink enough fluids are start each day already dehydrated?

Heading into camping season take a little time to think about whether or not you are getting enough fluids. Don’t wait until you get to camp to start drinking more fluids…if you arrive dehydrated to begin with, getting hydrated is an uphill battle.

Living on the coast in a damper climate is quite different than some of our council resident camps. Even if you are attending a resident camp on the coast, you most likely will be more active while at camp…which will increase your water needs.
