Third Annual Dutch Oven Cookoff at Ft. Clatsop District Picnic

It’s that time of year again…come out and enjoy the fun at the Ft. Clatsop District Picnic…and check out the Dutch Oven Cookoff. Check out the rules at the end of this post and load up your Dutch Oven and favorite dessert supplies.

There will be games, fun and food. The District will provide hamburgers and hot dogs with the fixins as well as water. Bring your own favorite potluck side dish.

As in years past, there will be NO SWIMMING allowed at this event. There is also a $5 fee to park at Cullaby Lake.

We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Rules

Entrants supply your own Dutch Ovens and Utensils

  1. Entrants supply all charcoal and starting materials.
  2. Everything must be prepared on site.
  3. Entrants must be able describe their creation as to how made and with what to the judges.
  4. Entrants can start bringing in their equipment and set up at 5:30 pm.  
  5. Preparation and starting of charcoals can begin no sooner than 6:00 pm
  6. Judging at 7:00 pm. All cooking ends and your plated dessert brought to the judging table.
  7. There will be 2 divisions.  Adult Scouters and Scouts
  8. This is a solo event, no teams or helpers.
  9. Judges will be judging on:
    1. Originality
    2. Taste
    3. Appearance
    4. There will be a points deducted for Cobblers and Dump Cakes in the Adult Division.
    5. Head Judge’s decision will be final.
  10. All cooking must be done in a Dutch Oven on site.  No more than 2 Dutch Ovens maybe used.
  11. Side items such as butters, sauces, jams should not be presented to the judges.
  12. Good fire safety practices must be maintained.
  13. Safe food handling practices must be maintained.

Ft. Clatsop District Day Camp Volunteer Staff Positions Available

We are looking for youth, age 14 and older, boys and girls. Great opportunity for service hours for Boy Scouts, service hours toward Pacifica Projects for non scouts.

We are also looking for adult volunteers for our fishing station as well as BB and Archery ranges. Current NRA certification would be a plus, however if you aren’t currently certified BSA range instructor training will be provided.

Camp training and set up will be Saturday June 25th…camp will run June 27-July 1st at Camp Rilea.

To Scoutmasters, Committee chairmen and Parents:
I am sending this “plea” to you!  John Doran – District Day Camp Onsite Coordinator – needs help with staff for Day Camp.
The Dates are June 25 (set up) and then June 27 – July 1.
I know that 1 troop is going to camp during that time.
This year they will be firm re: age of staff.
The boy/girl needs to be 14  years of age by June 25.

2017 National Jamboree Informational Meeting in Ft. Clatsop District

The next National Jamboree is right around the corner. It’s the perfect time to get more information and get signed up.

There will be an informational meeting in Ft. Clatsop District on Thursday, April 28th at 7pm. The location is yet to be determined.

Come meet Jack Branch, Cascade Pacific Council’s National Jamboree Chairman. Jack has also been the past scoutmaster of the Longview/Ft. Clatsop Jamboree Troop.

Any youth or adults interested in attending the 2017 National Jamboree should plan to attend. Youth should bring a parent with them.

Providence Seaside Hospital is assisting with volunteer coordination for this Friday’s memorial service for Sgt. Jason Goodding, and they are looking for additional help as family members, friends and the community pay their last respects.

Friday, February 12 – Memorial Service

Approximately 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Seaside Convention Center, 415 First Avenue, Seaside
Deadline: Volunteers must sign up by Wednesday, Feb. 10 at noon, in order to have enough time to arrange volunteer placement.

Night Flight ~ December 11, 2015. Soar into the night with legends of aviation! Scouts are invited to spend a fun-filled evening of activities and learning in the Museum, where they will slumber beneath the world’s largest wooden wing, or near a giant Titan II rocket. Free admission for the NEW member and recruiter.
This overnight event includes:

· Glider or Rocket Construction
· Flight Simulator Lab
· Scavenger Hunt
· Film in the Evergreen Theater

2. New member completes an application and pays the appropriate fee.

Cascade Pacific Councils Latest Word on Tour Plans

Tour Plans are not required for District and Council Events.   They are encourage but may be difficult to complete since a Webelos den may not have Baloo Training, Hazardous Weather Etc.

Q. When do I need to complete a tour and activity plan?
A. 
Times when a tour and activity plan must be submitted for council review include the following:

§  Trips of 500 miles or more; or

§  Trips outside of council borders (exception: not to your council-owned property); or

§  Trips to Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier, Philmont Scout Ranch, Summit Bechtel Reserve (you will be asked to present a copy of  your tour and activity plan upon arrival), national Scout jamboree, National Order of the Arrow Conference, or a regionally sponsored event; or

§  When conducting any of the following activities outside of council or district events:

§  Aquatics activities (swimming, boating, floating, scuba, etc.)

§  Climbing and rappelling

§  Orientation flights (process flying plan)

§  Shooting sports

§  Any activities involving motorized vehicles as part of the program (snowmobiles, boating, etc.); or

§  At a council’s request (Contact your local council for additional guidelines or regulations concerning tour and activity plans; many have set guidelines for events or activities within council boundaries such as for Cub Scout overnight camping.)

Regardless, the tour and activity plan is an excellent tool that should be included in preparation for all activities, even those not requiring it. It guides a tour leader through itineraries, travel arrangements, two-deep leadership, supervision qualifications, and transportation.
