Packs, remember that registration opened for resident camps June 1st this year, not in November as before. So those resident camps are filling faster.

2013 Council Philmont Contingent Informational Meeting June 2nd at the Portland Service Center

2013 Council Philmont Contingent Informational Meeting June 2ndPhilmont
Are you ready for the High Adventure trip of a lifetime? How does 12 days of backpacking in the high mountains of New Mexico sound? The Cascade Pacific Council has openings now for the 2013 Philmont contingent. Philmont is the national BSA’s premier high adventure backpacking base located in New Mexico. “Crews” of up to ten Scouts and two adult advisors choose from thirty-six, 11 day, 60 to 100 mile backpack trips through the rugged high-altitude backcountry of the southern Rocky Mountains. Along the way, they visit many of Philmont’s 28 staffed camps, featuring activities such as: rock climbing, black powder rifle shooting, blacksmithing, mountain biking, spar pole climbing, horseback riding, or climbing 12,441 ft. to the top of Mt. Baldy. If you are interested in being a part of the council Philmont contingent, please visit www.cpcbsa.org/philmont for more information and/or attend the meeting on June 2nd at the Portland Service Center.

Camping right around the corner, make sure your medical/special needs forms are current and complete

With camping season right around the corner, it’s time to make sure everyone has a current medical form on file with their scout unit.

Medical  and Special Needs forms can be downloaded from the council website at http://www.cpcbsa.org/leader-resources/download-forms/category/29-medical-and-special-need (you will need to click “download BSA medical form” from the information page.) The medical form is a fillable form, meaning you can fill it out online so it is legible then print it out. The special needs form is not fillable online.

All youth and adults need parts A & B (no doctors signature). Webelos and adults  attending Adventure Cove and Boy Scout/Venturing age youth and adults attending week-long resident camps must have part C (with a doctors signature). If you are doing National High Adventure Base you must have part D.

Please be aware that you MUST have vaccination dates listed on your medical forms. We are aware of at least one instance (outside our district) where an ER doctor refused to treat until vaccine dates could be obtained.

If you are filling out a special needs form, please be specific. The more information you include, the better equipped your scout unit and camp staff will be to make sure everyone has a safe and positive camp experience.

Shoot stuff and drink hot chocolate at the district wide fall event

“SHOOT STUFF” and Drink Chocolate is a fun event planned for all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Crew Members and families September 22 from 11 – 2 at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds.  There will be bb guns, archery, disc golf and a demonstration of remote control airplanes.
